3D Printer Filament
Bambu Lab Filament for Every Application
Bambu Lab produces a comprehensive range of 1.75mm FDM filaments designed for use with Bambu Lab printers and compatible with most other desktop FDM machines. The range covers PLA in multiple variants, PETG, TPU, and specialty composite materials including carbon-fibre blended filaments for structural applications. All filaments are supplied on standardised 1kg spools and include RFID chips that allow Bambu Lab printers to detect the material type and load optimised print profiles automatically through Bambu Studio.
Filament Types and Applications
PLA is the starting point for most desktop 3D printing and is available in the widest range of colours and finishes in the Bambu Lab range. PLA Basic suits general-purpose printing, hobby models, and decorative objects. PLA Matte produces a non-reflective surface finish well suited to display pieces and cosplay props. PLA Silk and Silk+ produce a high-sheen surface that mimics metallic and satin finishes. Specialty PLA variants include Marble, Sparkle, Glow in the Dark, Wood-filled, and Tough+, each adding a specific property or aesthetic to the base material.
PETG offers better impact resistance and temperature tolerance than PLA, making it suited to functional parts including brackets, clips, enclosures, and components that will be used outdoors or in warmer environments. TPU 95A HF is a flexible filament suited to phone cases, gaskets, flexible hinges, and any application requiring elasticity and impact absorption. PLA-CF (carbon-fibre composite) and PA-CF are available for applications requiring higher stiffness and strength than standard PLA or PETG can provide, and require an enclosed printer for best results.
Colour Range and AMS Compatibility
Bambu Lab filaments are available in a broad palette across most material types, enabling colour-accurate multi-material printing via the AMS system without manual filament changes. The AMS handles up to four spools simultaneously, switching automatically mid-print for multi-colour models sliced in Bambu Studio. Browse the 3D printers collection for compatible printer models, or the accessories range for AMS units if multi-colour printing is a goal.
What is the difference between PLA and PETG?
PLA (Polylactic Acid) is easy to print, produces good surface detail, and suits most decorative and low-stress functional prints. It softens at around 60°C and is not suited to applications exposed to direct sunlight, hot car interiors, or dishwasher temperatures. PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) is tougher and more impact-resistant than PLA, with a higher heat resistance of around 80°C, better moisture resistance, and a slightly more flexible nature that reduces brittleness. PETG is the preferred choice for functional parts, outdoor use, and components subject to light mechanical stress.
Is Bambu Lab filament compatible with other 3D printers?
Yes. Bambu Lab filaments use the standard 1.75mm diameter and are mechanically compatible with most FDM printers from other manufacturers. The RFID-based automatic profile loading works only on Bambu Lab printers, but the filaments themselves print normally on any compatible machine using manually configured slicer settings.
How should I store 3D printing filament?
Most FDM filaments absorb moisture from the air over time, which can cause print quality issues including stringing, bubbling, and surface roughness. Filament should be stored in an airtight container with desiccant when not in use, away from direct sunlight and heat. PLA and PETG are among the more hygroscopic materials and benefit most from careful storage. Filament that has absorbed moisture can often be dried in a low-temperature oven or a dedicated filament dryer before use to restore print quality.
